Can You be a Youth Leader?

Your role

Alongside a team of youth leaders, to help facilitate a Youth Cell Group (which meet for bible study, prayer and community time). To provide pastoral support, encouragement and discipleship to our young people. To help with various youth related activities; trips, Sunday youth service and other events.  

  • Cell is on Thursday Evenings – 2 groups (years 7-9 & 10-13)
  • Youth Service will be in the mornings but this is currently under review. Times will be available in September.
  • Dates for all other events will become available next term

What you would do

  • Meeting with the young people at Cell group, creating a welcoming and friendly community; in which young people are in a deep relationship with God and each another. There would be an opportunity to lead the group or prepare a session God has laid on your heart.
  • Help to prepare Cell Group sessions/discussion that is engaging, open and would enable us to go deeper into the word of God.
  • Pray for the young people in their cell group, encourage them in their walk with Jesus and always provide the opportunity for them to pray (this must be offered not forced and would need encouragement from the leaders).
  • As appropriate and within safeguarding guidelines pastorally support the young people within the cell group.
  • Helping to facilitate the youth service with the opportunity to preach to the youth (should that be in your heart to do so) 

What we require of you

  • To be a member of Christ Church Purley with a Biblical Christian faith in accordance with the Evangelical Alliance statement of faith (
  • Able to communicate and relate with young people in a small group environment, without judgemental and in a relaxed manner that encourages openness.
  • To journey with the young people in their walk with God.
  • To model not just in words but in deeds what it is to be a Christian. To be open about ones failings or weaknesses
  • To hold a clear DBS certificate
  • To undertake safeguarding training – C0 and C1 (currently online)
  • To be available to serve preferably weekly in term time, and be a part of the wider Youth Ministry Leadership Team.
  • Ideally, can commit for one year.
  • Experience is not essential as training and support will be provided, but some experience of small group leadership with teenagers would be beneficial.
  • You will be on a rota and we will always endeavour to accommodate the times that are convenient for you. We ask that you give us ample notice of any oncoming holidays or days you are not available.
